H2 Mathematics 9758 guide

H2 Math Syllabus 2026: papers, topics and a smarter revision plan

The official syllabus is the best source of truth, but it is written as an assessment document. This guide turns it into a clear map for JC students preparing for the 2026 A-Level H2 Mathematics examination.

Quick answer

What does H2 Math 9758 assess?

The examination has two 3-hour papers worth 100 marks each. Paper 1 is Pure Mathematics. Paper 2 contains 40 marks of Pure Mathematics and 60 marks of Probability and Statistics. Students answer every question, and both papers may include a real-world application question worth at least 12 marks.

Paper 24–5 Pure Math questions and 6–8 Statistics questions3 hours50%

The weighting matters. Statistics is 60 marks in Paper 2, but Pure Mathematics appears in both papers. A sensible plan therefore develops consistent Pure Math skill while keeping Statistics active rather than postponing it until late in JC2.

Topic map

What is in the 2026 H2 Math syllabus?

Pure Mathematics

  • Functions, graphs and transformations
  • Equations and inequalities
  • Sequences and series
  • Vectors in two and three dimensions
  • Complex numbers in Cartesian form and Argand diagrams
  • Differentiation and its applications
  • Maclaurin series
  • Integration techniques and definite integrals
  • Differential equations

Probability and Statistics

  • Counting, permutations and combinations
  • Probability and conditional probability
  • Discrete random variables
  • Binomial distribution
  • Normal distribution
  • Sampling and the Central Limit Theorem
  • Hypothesis testing
  • Correlation and linear regression

O-Level Mathematics knowledge is assumed, together with specified Additional Mathematics knowledge. In practice, algebraic fluency remains important because it sits underneath functions, calculus, sequences, vectors and many modelling questions.

What the syllabus is telling you

H2 Math is not only a list of formulas

The assessment objectives place the greatest weight on formulating and solving problems. Students must choose a method, connect topics and communicate working clearly. The syllabus also expects use of an approved graphing calculator, but unsupported calculator answers may receive no marks where mathematical steps are required.

Useful implication: revision should include unfamiliar and mixed-topic questions, not only repeated examples where the required method is already obvious.

Revision workflow

Turn the syllabus into a working plan

  1. Audit by topic.Mark each topic as secure, inconsistent or not yet understood using evidence from recent papers.
  2. Repair prerequisites first.Fix the algebra, graphing or differentiation skill that is blocking several later topics.
  3. Practise by question structure.Learn the recurring signals that distinguish one method from another, then move to mixed questions.
  4. Review lost marks.Record whether marks were lost through concept, method choice, algebra, presentation, calculator use or time.

Syllabus FAQ

Common questions about H2 Math 9758

Is 9758 the H2 Math syllabus code for 2026?

Yes. The document used for this guide is the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level H2 Mathematics syllabus 9758 for examination in 2026.

Is Paper 1 only Pure Mathematics?

Yes. Paper 1 is based on Pure Mathematics. Paper 2 contains a 40-mark Pure Mathematics section and a 60-mark Probability and Statistics section.

Is the MF27 formula list the same as the syllabus?

No. The syllabus defines what may be assessed. MF27 is a shared examination formula booklet containing selected formulae and results. It is useful, but it is not a complete topic or revision checklist.
