MF27 formula list: what is inside and how to use it well

MF27 is useful only when a student can recognise the method, interpret the notation and show the working. This guide maps the booklet and explains how to practise with it before the A-Levels.

Quick answer

What is MF27?

MF27 is the official eight-page Mathematics formula list used from 2025 for several Singapore-Cambridge A-Level Mathematics papers, including H2 Mathematics. It contains selected formulae and results across algebra, trigonometry, calculus, vectors, numerical methods and statistics. It supports the exam; it does not replace the syllabus.

The important limitation

MF27 does not choose the method for you

It can provide

  • A formula or standard result
  • A check on notation and coefficients
  • A quick reference during a long paper

You still provide

  • The correct topic and method
  • Conditions, substitutions and interpretation
  • Logical working and a contextual conclusion
  • Results and methods that are not printed

A common mistake is to treat the booklet as something to open only after getting stuck. A stronger habit is to know its layout before the exam, so consulting it is deliberate and fast.

Practice routine

How to train with MF27

  1. Locate. Before solving, identify whether a relevant result is in MF27 and where it sits.
  2. Interpret.State what each symbol represents and check whether the conditions match the question.
  3. Apply.Substitute carefully, show the mathematical steps and use the graphing calculator only where appropriate.
  4. Review. After marking, distinguish a formula recall error from a method-choice or execution error.
Good target: by prelims, a student should know whether to consult MF27, where to find the relevant result and what additional working the marker expects.

Revision checklist

Do this before a timed paper

  • Print or open a clean copy during practice.
  • Learn the page structure rather than memorising the visual position of one formula.
  • Compare every topic against syllabus 9758, not against MF27 alone.
  • Practise mixed questions where the required formula is not named.
  • Check current examination instructions rather than relying on assumptions about annotations or materials.

Use the official MF27 document

The official booklet is the source of truth. Sterling’s guide explains how to work with it, but does not reproduce or replace it.

MF27 FAQ

Common questions about the formula list

Is MF27 provided for H2 Math examinations?

The H2 Mathematics syllabus states that candidates are provided with a list of formulae and results. MF27 is the official formula list used for the relevant A-Level Mathematics examinations from 2025.

Does MF27 contain every H2 Math formula?

No. It contains selected formulae and results and is shared across several syllabuses. Students still need the H2 syllabus, topic knowledge, method selection and clear working.

Should I memorise the whole booklet?

No. Learn which parts are relevant to H2 Math, become familiar with the page structure and practise interpreting each formula correctly. The goal is efficient use, not visual memorisation.
